April 30, 2012

This is the last day of April and WOW, the time flew by.  May is here and now we can cheer.  I will be sad to see them go, but they have grown.  The time has come for the last bit of wisdom and crunch as much as I can into your child before their third grade time arises.  Today we started out in the lab finishing our food chains and typing our findings on a Word document.  Then we came back to class for reading and completed our groups.  Then we went out for recess and the students are busy trying to find insects and other creatures to bring in the room.  We had the best gift of all we went to preview the books at the BOOK FAIR.  Then we completed math which we started learning about weight and how things can be measured, and also continuing to discuss multiplication.  Then we ended our day discussing the meal worms parts and adaptations for animals.  What do you think of our year coming to an end?

We went to the computer lab and worked on our Food Chain webs.  Then we learned how to type on a word document.  We came back to the room and continued to publish our books we are creating.  After this we went to specials.  YEAH, THE SCHOOL IS FINALLY DONE WITH STAAR!!

April 23,2012

Today was a great day, tomorrow will be a silent day due to testing.  Please do not come to the building till Friday.  The older classes are taking their STARR tests.  The day was filled with tons of writing we made our published books today and will continue all week.  They brought home a letter which needs to be back tomorrow. This is if you want to buy a second copy of their published book.  Here is the letter...
I wanted to inform you that the free book will be bound with your child’s original pages, they wrote.  The second book, if you purchase one, will be bound with pages that have been copied by the company.  I am letting you know this due to in the past parents were sad their child’s book got ruined due to water being spilled on the book.  If you want it to last forever then you might want to purchase a second copy.
Then we had math and continued our CGI and had station reading time, so Ms. Wolfean could meet with groups.  Finally we closed our day with discussing animals and their adaptations.

April 17,2012

Today started off with us all heading down to the library.  We had the opportunity to watch a video on books that will be sold at the book fair.  We loved them and can not wait to bring our parents to buy them, maybe one for our class library?  Well then it was time for writing and we practice writing a letter to be put in our published books for the readers to try to convince them to read our books.  Then we moved into reading and did groups.  Soon it was time for math where we reviewed for our upcoming bench mark.  Finally we ended are day with the food chains in science.  Have a fantastic evening and what have you enjoyed about our science thus far?

April 16, 2012

We were excited because today we went to the computer lab.  We learned how to place our hands and log on to the computer.  We even got time to play on Kid Pix, because the next teacher was not there yet.  We will be in the computer lab everyday to learn new programs.  Ask them what is right click, how to log on, and how shut down our new computers?  Stayed tuned for tomorrow and what we learn?  We came back into class and got right into reading groups and began our lesson.  After this we started math and compared nonstandard of units to the standard unit of measure.  Then we completed our day with science and spelling.  We discussed the food chain in science and how it begins with plants.  We also are extending our unit on homophones in spelling due to the fact they write the wrong words in their writing.

April 13, 2012

Jackson was our Top Banana and he had to leave early we were sad to see him end his reign.  He shared the rest of his poster, two stuffed animals, and then shared his favorite book.  He loved playing baseball with his father as the coach.  We laughed at the picture of him dressed as the pirate.  He showed us first the stuffed dog that reminds him of Fin and Folk.  Then we got to see Cosmo the Tiger which he got at Buffalo Wild Wings.  His Favorite book is a Magic Tree House book called Dogs in the Dead of Night.  We were surprised it had dogs, not really.

Today was Friday the 13th and boy was I nervous to come to school thought the kids would be a little crazy.  They were great, we received a new letter for behavior and hard work.  Let us see how many of them notice the letter, or read this when we return on Monday.  I loved giving them their spelling test and did trick some of them.  You will receive all graded papers on Monday, I have a ton.  I will also be sending home the grade for the district bench mark.  I enjoyed my day teaching we took two quick checks one in math on measurement, and one in science on plants.  We did our reading and finished our biography report, and Hey Little Ant ending to the book.  Then we measured using nonstandard unit of cubes.  We planted seeds to observe them as they grow and we are going to compare our plants we planted in soil to Ms. Wolfean's plant she planted in rocks.  Which one do you think will grow over the weekend yours or mine, explain why?

I am sorry this did not post last night, something seems to be wrong with blogger.  I try to publish the post from home and it is not letting it go through.  I do not want you all to think I am slacking.  I love to update the blog, but it seems to not want me to do it from home.  Yesterday we completed our bench mark test.  After two days of testing I have to report that my class ROCKS!  They all tried their best and used their strategies.  We then had math and continued to discuss measurement.  We used a nonstandard unit of measure to measure the items in the room.  We used a paperclip and a worm ruler to measure items thus far.  Then we went out front by the office to watch a tree ceremony, honoring Mrs. Barton who worked in the office last year.  She passed away and a tree was being planted in her honor.  We also watched a magic school bus video about what roots do to help a plant.

Jackson again did an excellent job as Top Banana, we ran out of time to share.  He wanted to ask everyone what is your favorite book, because he loves to read?

April 11, 2012

Please make sure to study your words out of order, I will be giving the students the words in a sentence.  They will have to write the right word.

Jackson is our new Top Banana this week.  He shared his poster and reported that his family has four dogs living in thier house.  He also mentioned that his sibilings might be just as crazy as his dogs.  He shared, "My dad had a dog that helped do his job.  Since he was a police dog."  jackson loves his dog named Gedien the best because, "He has a sad puppy dog face."  We loved hearing him share his poster, can't wait for more tomorrow.

Some children may have come home with thier homework not checked.  This was because I had to get started on the test.  Today was a day like no other, we TESTED!!!!!  This day was filled with a benchmark test, and the children voted to try and complete the test before the day was over.  I am proud that no one has completed the test.  They are on the writing portion and will finish it tomorrow in class.  They brought a note home about field day, it is regrading sack lunches.  Please sign and return, children will get paid extra for bringing it back.

April 9,2012

After this long weekend I thought for sure the students were going to be off the wall, however, I was proven wrong. My monkeys were fantastic, we got through all our lessons.  During reading we discussed the importance of interesting information and important information.  We will be discussing what is fact and what are opinions in reading.  During writing we continued to write personal narratives working on show don't tell.  We looked at how to describe a small moment by hearing writers who have written small moments.  We are working on details to describe the small moment and will keep this going this week.  I loved teaching math today because the students were discovering how to measure using a nonstandard unit of measure.  We will be using them all week and will be getting into standard units next week.  Science was interesting because we reviewed nonliving and living things and reported about what our plants will be getting and not getting during our observation period.  Overall I was extremely proud of how well they behaved.  They even received a letter towards their bubble party.  Finally our day ended with Mike coming to have lunch bunch with us.  Glad everyone had a safe Spring Holiday!!!  Describe the best thing you did over the long weekend?

April 4,2012

What a fantastic day, but it was a talkative one.  Also they seemed to not want to follow directions.  We had Mrs. Doyle come read to us.  She read another book of the Buddy Files book series.  Then we had the awards ceremony.  After this we came back and read our biographies.  then we headed out to recess to play with all our second grade friends.  Lady bugs seem to be the interest out at recess, they love to catch them.  Then we did our math for geometry and continued our writing show don't tell.  We had full tummies after lunch and began our science unit on plants.  What do you want to learn about plants?

April 3, 2012

TOMORROW AWARDS at 9:45, hope to see all of you there.  Today was a great day filled with lots of learning.  We did our writing, still working on show don't tell.  Then we headed to the library to check out new books.  We even got to listen to Mrs. Wallingford give us a lesson on autism.  It was interesting to learn how children are born differently, but we are all the same.  Then we did our new CGI math dealing with shapes and money.  This was a different type of problem, but they seem to like the challenge.  Please know that the problem I sent home had a mistake, change 75 cents to 76 cents.  I hope you can forgive me?

April 1, 2012

We almost completed everything, but we missed getting to our last subject.  It was due to the fact we had to take a math test for our geometry unit.  The students we fabulous, so you can all breath.  They rocked on behavior, and they will be surprised when they arrive in the morning.  We did our reading and we are now moving into our Biography unit.  It is still an informational text, however, it discusses a person's life.  We are still writing personal narratives, and have started discussing how to revise for a show don't tell moment in our writing.  It was a busy day, but it seems as though we did not do much.  If you were in here you would have seen my monkeys learning a ton.  A mother comment on Friday's post about lunch bunch; how her child looks forward to it. Therefore, students my question of the week for you...Describe the best part of lunch bunch for you and why or why not you enjoy it?
