Today was excellent, Mrs. Lucas came in the class to chat with us on reading.  She was impressed with what the class was doing with our books.  We have been working on note taking and learning how to discuss our books.  This helps us recall details and comprehend our stories.  She loved all of our hard work, and was excited to hear all our thoughts.  We are working hard to complete our narrative stories in our writing and can't wait till tomorrow to dive into our research on Texas Tech.  We worked on math by writing on the tables and learning how to add double digit with regrouping and not using our hundreds chart.  Then we moved right in to studying past and present in social studies.  We discussed how the seasons can help us tell time.

Today was a fantastic day, we are trying hard to stay on track and to complete all our class work.  I loved the performance last night, I thought they were amazing.  I would love to see your photos you took. If you want them posted on my blog please send them in.  The students came in to class and we got started on our morning work.  We then moved on in to our reading and reading groups.  We are still practicing how to take notes and record our thoughts.  We worked on our writing and started a new personal narrative.  After that we finished our lesson on double addition using mental math and Mrs. Zero.  This is our one hundreds chart, please have them show you.  Soon after lunch we watched a video which explained past and present to us.  The students we impressed seeing all the crazy gadgets that we used as children.  I wish you could have seen their faces.

TONIGHT IS THE BIG NIGHT!!!!!  See you all there at 6:15, please be on time we need to ensure all students are ready and prepared.  We had a great day, we read a lot.  We are working on taking notes while we read.  Please have them practice this at home for a reading response.  We are moving to writing and learning how to use media literacy in our class and everyday life.  We will start to research and take notes using media for Texas Tech.  We are still working on double digit addition and the students are finally getting pretty good at mental math.  We are also beginning our study on past and present in our world around us.  Today we looked at items and compared to what they look like now.  Please ask your child about the old objects we discussed and have them report what they reported to me.  It was interesting to hear them share their thoughts on these artifacts.

Today was a quick day with loads of work to do.  We had a busy day of learning, filled with interesting topics.  Which one was your favorite to learn in class?  I know we are excited about the performance, but we must continue to complete our studies during class.  We are doing our reading and meeting in our groups.  We are learning to take notes while we read, this might be something you might want them to do for their reading response.  They know how to take notes let them model it for you. If they did not do this Monday night have them do it Wednesday.  There is no spelling due to the performance, so believe your child when they say this.  We are talking about how to begin our writing of personal narrative in class ask them to explain ways to hook our reader in our writing.  We continued to do our math of double digit addition and will begin to move into subtraction soon.  We have started our Past and Present lesson in Social Studies.  Make sure to have a SOLID PINK SHIRT for tomorrow!!!!

     I am excited it is Friday, but sad a little because the students have been doing a wonderful job staying on task.  We are finally getting to specials on time.  I guess the every minute we are late they walk laps is helping.  They got there on time today, which was a first in a long time!!!!  We managed to get through our spelling test, reading and writing without much trouble.  In reading we are working on taking our notes and making connections to the story.  During writing time we are starting our University research and today we did not have our published work complete therefore we will begin next week.  Math was great we played with Mrs. Zero and added two digit numbers.  Then we finally worked on problems using the mental math and counting by ten strategy.  Next week we will complete the double digit of addition and move into subtraction.  We tried to complete our Social Studies but we were interrupted by Mrs. Sandford's class.  She came and we read and listened to the music to meet the younger students, we would love to see her again???

We had a marvelous day, it was filled with lots of learning.  We published our poems and made a cover for our poetry folder.  I can not wait till we add the poems Ms. Wolfean has shared with the class to my poems.  I heard one student say this under their breath. It was fantastic to hear how excited the girls and boys are about writing and reading poetry.  We will begin our University research and project, next week.  I can not wait to get started.  I also hope the class will be excited too?  Are you ready to begin our Texas Tech project?  What do you want to learn?  In reading the class was shocked because I changed my reading block a little, this was due to the training I went to.  I also changed my math some also due to training.  I love learning even though I am not in school!!  We used our 100 chart (Mrs. Zero) to add double digit numbers.  If you have a printer have them show you?  They will bring her home over the weekend to model this strategy for you.  Then finally we are completing our 100 day activity they brought in ask them what they are making?  The reason for two colors red and black are, can you guess the right answer?  Please comment on the blog?

Wow what a day!!!!  100 days of school and where has the time gone, I know to learn?  What and where do you think all our time has gone?  I loved having Mrs. Doyle come read us the book Honest Abe, she really does know how to get us engaged in her choices of books.  What are your thoughts on her coming?  We did our 100 day activities and did not finish them, therefore we will be spending sometime completing the activities.  We counted to 100 different ways to line up, wrote 100 words and made a chain, and then we started our math activities and did not finish, BOO WOO! (my class crying)  I know they were disappointed not to finish, this is why we will do it again tomorrow.  I hope the students continue on this awesome path to staying on task and completing their work.  REMEMBER TO WEAR PINK NEXT TUESDAY NIGHT!!!!
