January 31, 2012

Today was a much more active day.  I really am excited to report that my class is really stepping up and showing me how wonderful they are.  I also love we have managed to get through all activities.  We went to the library and checked out new books.  Mrs. Wallingford taught us how to use the elibrary on the computer, ask your child to show you?  We then had our reading groups and stations.  Then we moved straight into math and began our unit on double digit addition.  Then we completed our Native American Unit in social studies.

Monday, OH BOY!!  The students and myself seem to move slower and forget what is expected.  However, I do know how to get them in shape.  Thanks to all parents who have returned their letters, for the Valentine's day Party.  I can not wait to have that happen, I love this holiday.  I will be sending home a class list this week for them to write Valentine's over the weekend.  I know PINK is not every one's favorite (hint boys)  I did pick this color for our amazing race performance on February 7, 2012.  I did this because everyone in the school knows this is my favorite color.  I hope they are excited knowing the reason for this.  PLEASE, have your child wear this solid color shirt that night!!!!  I am excited to report that we completed all activities today.  We are reading new books in group and we are learning new ways to respond to books.  We are completing our poem unit in writing and making a book to bring home.  We have moved a way from fractions and are beginning our unit on double addition and subtracting.  We watched our last video on our Native American regions, The Plains.

January 27, 2012

Today was a day that we worked to complete unfinished work.  The class missed recess because everyone had work to complete.  This seemed to help some, but there are still students who have not completed their work.  I am excited to report that Jordan H. was an excellent top banana he brought his show-n-tell in and we all enjoyed it.  He shared his Rainy reindeer stuffed animal which he takes with him places like the dentist.  He loves to hold it when he gets in trouble, he told us it makes him feel better.  He also found a Crystal rock in his Dad's backyard and loves to look at it.  His favorite book is Zin, Zin, Zin  a Violin by: Lloyd Moss.  Jordan was kind and allowed Olivia to share in his spot light, she finally go to share her show-n-tell.  She brought a bear which her grandma bought her.  It was from Build a Bear, it was a sweet looking creature that had peace signs all over it.  It was interesting to see a bear with lipstick and eyelashes.  Olivia reports she added those things to make her look pretty.  Also she shared her favorite book with us.  She even read her favorite part and reported that it makes her feel better when she reads it. Her book was a gift from Grandma too.  It was called My first Book of Bedtime Prayers by: Matt Faulkner.

January 26, 2012

We had a productive day the students, however there was some talking while small groups were going.  Students reported it was hard to concentrate.  We discussed the matter and I know it will only get better.  We had to eat in the classroom due to the Science Fair projects.  We had a great time reading and meeting in our groups about our books.  Then we did our stations to complete our reading projects.  We moved straight into writing and worked on rough drafting our poems.  Then we headed into math to complete our fraction unit.  Tomorrow we will be taking our test.  Then we finally ended our day with a video on the Eastern Woodland People.  Make sure to be getting a PINK SHIRT for the second grade performance on February 7, 2012.

January 24, 2012

PLEASE remember to wear a SOLID PINK SHIRT to the second grade performance on February 7, 2012.  We will look awesome because everyone will know whose class you are in.  I love pink and that is why I chose it to stand out in the crowd!!!!  Today Olivia finished her poster, but again forgot her show-n-tell.  We learned her family loves to vacation and she is a lover of flowers.  I love Minnie Mouse and so does Olivia.  Her and her family traveled to Disney World.  I hope to go back there myself.  As we say good-bye to Olivia Jordan H. has taken over.

Then Jordan H. got in the hot seat to start his poster and we learned he too loves to travel.  He had the cutest picture of himself at the zoo.  I loved the fact it was a baby picture, I love them and as you get older you will too.  He was on blocks and boy he was adorable.  He reported the lions were his favorite at the Houston Zoo.  He said, "His mom won the lottery and that is how they got to go."  Wow, what a great way to spend the money time with family.

We had a busy day we did reading stations and had a math test.  It seemed like it took all day to complete everything.  We wrote more poems and learned how to write an acrostic.  Please ask your child about them?  We complete the Southern Dessert People for our Native American unit.  ALSO YOUR CHILD IS CORRECT NO MATH!!!!

January 23, 2012

We were busy today that we did not have time to let our Top Banana explain his poster.  Olivia needed to finish hers and I felt horrible.  The day was fantastic, however Monday seems to move slow.  I guess they are trying to get in the grove from all their relaxing over the weekend.  Jordan H. was the line leader and Olivia was number two since we shared their job.  Olivia for got her show-n-tell again which is sad.  We did our reading stations and wrote more poems.  Then in Math we worked on fractions and finished our day with Social Studies.  PLEASE REMEMBER WE ARE WEARING SOLID PINK SHIRTS for the PTA performance on February 7.

January 18, 2012

We had another day filled with lots of interesting learning.  However, the day did go by a lot slower due to scheduling change.  We had specials in the morning not in the afternoon, and all the children kept asking was when do we get recess?  We had it at the end of the day, and they did not seem to like that one bit.  We are enjoying learning about Olivia and we know she has a sister in Mrs. Hughes class.  She loves the beach and enjoys time with her family.  We did make it to the library and had a lesson on note taking.  We discovered it was Michael's birthday and we wished he was here at school so we could sing.We continued our unit in Math on fractions and loved our fish lesson.  We watched a video on the Southwest dessert Native American tripes and discovered how they use resources to maintain their livelihood.  We finally ended our day with RECESS!!!!

January 19, 2012

We missed you Reggie, and wow we are learning a lot about Olivia.  She has been our Top Banana this week.Today we had a busy day with learning.  We made sure to do our reading and some of us got to meet in groups and go over our stories.  We are continuing to learn about poetry, and it has been great to see their writing develop.  I am enjoying seeing what topics they come up with, and then describe it in a poem.  The students should be bring home their chapter book from the library to read to you.  It is called their Scholastic Reading Counts books.  They should read these at night, come to school with it on their reading log, and then they will take a test on the computer to build comprehension.  I am loving seeing them take tests, it is a fantastic way for them to see how their comprehension is going.  I hope they brought their book home?  Please ask them to read it at night.  In math we are still learning about fractions and we took a quick check on them.  Finally we ended our day with Native Americans and tracing a map of the regions.

January 17, 2012

Your child is correct there is no spelling we will pick it up next week.  I noticed my students dragging in this morning, just as I did due to the long weekend.  I was rested up, however, my weekend was spent in bed sick.  I did venture out to the movies and had a fantastic time.  I was glad to get back to teaching today.  We started our day off with our AWARDS at 8 AM.  I was proud of all the students and their hard work.  It was nice to see the families of my class.  Thank you for supporting your child.  Mrs. Doyle came and read to the class and we were able to listen to her read us poems.  This was a wonderful idea of hers because our class is reading and writing poetry.  We are enjoying listening, reading, and writing poems.  This class has learned a lot, please ask them what they know about poetry.  In math we are continuing to learn about fractions and they are grasping it, but some are still struggling.  Please work closely with your child and make sure they are understanding them.  In social studies we are studying Native American People, we are looking at how they used natural resources to impact their life.  The students are looking forward to their field trip on February 16.
