THREE DAYS TILL THE END! I am sad because we are not going to be seeing one another after our days here at Gattis.

We started our day with the Spelling Bee and we were excited to share with Jordon E., her third place victory was fantastic.  I loved also how far Clara made it and was overjoyed with their success.  We came back to the room for recess and then a surprise visit from Mrs. Doyle.  She read Mister and Me to us and I am loving the story and it has exposed me to all new vocabulary words.  We moved into Social Studies and had math time too.  Ms. Wolfean even allowed us to all eat lunch in her room.

Jordon E. shared her favorite book with us the title was called Horses by, Andrea Fitzgerald.  Her Grandad gave it to her for Christmas.  She shared us her ones she thought were weird.  Then she shared one paragraph about her favorite horse she changed her mind and went on to showing us her stuffed animal.  His name was Koda, she even played with him.  He makes noise and he also barks.  The class was being a little too talkative, it was time to leave for specials, therefore, she did not have time to finish.  We will complete tomorrow.

I can not believe it is our last week, man the year has come and gone.  I am sad to see it end, but I know they will be off to third grade with all the tools to sore to great lengths.  I have given them all they need now it is up to them.  Today was another fun filled day with lots of learning and some fun in there too.  We went to the computer lab to work on power point and then we came back to do reading.  The class was shortly stopped to go visit Mrs. Duckworth's class to hear them read their writing to us.  When we returned to the class it was recess.  After recess we went our reading and tomorrow after the spelling bee we will continue to work on reading and get to math.  We did social studies with Ms. Hughes class and ended our day with my class returning to our beach theme tomorrow, yes they can bring towels to sit on.

I was absent on Wednesday and had a fantastic sub there, Mrs Jones.  My students did their reading test and math division test and they did a great job.  They completed a story about a rainy day, Tuesday was a down pour of a day and the rain came down hard.  I noticed on some of the children they were scared.  I turned off the lights and had them listen to the sounds.  Then we wrote about the memories and the sounds we were hearing during the rain shower.  I thought it would be interesting to see what they would write on Wednesday.  They drew pictures of their rainy day and then some even wrote a poem.  Please be on the look out for all this coming home, due to the fact I am going to grading papers as soon as I finish this.  Mrs Jones finished her day with there discussion  on community and how it holds together through the production of goods and services.  Thank you everyone for having a great day with Mrs. Jones she left a great report.

I returned to school on Thursday and had a fantastic not form my sub.  I also discovered that Jordon did not go over her poster.  She went over her poster and I left my notes on my desk.  I will on Monday leave a report of all that was discussed.  We went to the computer lab and completed our research then I showed them a little of their project they will be creating on power point.  We had reading groups and discussed our math test and we ended our day with going over our business plans.  We even watched a video on how crayons are made.

The best day of the week had to be on Friday because we went out to kickball and watched the teachers win against the fifth graders.  It was cute to see the second graders start to practice plain kickball. I even heard one yell, "We need to start practicing if we want to win."  I have to say this was not my favorite thing about this day it would be Jordon's dog.  YES I said it, her mom brought their dog to the class for us all to see.  He was a ball of fur and very bouncy.  We all loved watching him jump up and down, even give Jordon kisses.  Also there was game day and dancing going on in my room.  I loved watching the students dance and have a blast.  They earned it and their hard work was a joy to watch.  I thought it was one of the best ones thus far.

Question: Describe you favorite thing you did this week and why?

Describe what you will miss about second grade, and explain why?

May 14, 2012

Today started off with us going to the computer lab.  We looked up research information on our animals and then came back to the room. Mrs. Doyle showed up to read more of the book Mister and Me.  Then we looked at the wonderful vocabulary which is in the book.  We are learning about our past through her reading.  We also took a virtual tour of the White House, and saw places and rooms which the public does not get to view.  Soon after recess we had math and began finishing our lesson on Division.

Our new Top Banana Jordon Erickson showed us a picture of her parents.  She shared the one picture about getting her puppy.  His name is Bridian.  He has ears that when he sleeps they flop over.  He is an Australian Toy Sheppard and has a milk mustage and he is smaller than the miniature.  He was born this way with the white white white part under his nose.  Jordon reported, "I used to have fish named Tiki I do not remember his color."  I love to play rough house with him and steal his toy.

Today was SLIME WARS, we loved seeing Ms. Hughes get slimed.  Ryan was a fantastic Top Banana this week he shared his poster and show-n-tell.  We spent time in the computer lab with our buddies and learning how to type a Word document.

Ryan had a picture of him when he went camping.  He reported to us, "I did not take a shower because that is what real campers do!" Another picture was a group of all his relatives and friends when they got together to spend time with one another.  He also shared a picture about his friends and their parents eating lunch together.  He shared a picture of his dad and him jogging.  Ryan stated, "I like jogging with my Dad because it helps us get skinnier."

He showed us his stuffed shunk that he plays with when he is bored.  He brings him out when he has a bad dream.  He brought in his favorite action figure that AJ, his best friend gave him.  He likes to play with him when he is bored.  His favorite book is Geroge Brown Class Clown Attack of the Tightie Whites, by Nancy Krulik.  It is my favorite because he burps and everytime he burps he goes out of control.  "I think the book is cool."Ryan told us.  He read two parts in the book which makes him laugh,"The main characters do crazy things together."  We are proud that Ryan did a got job as top Banana.

Today was a busy day, I had all intentions of getting a letter out to you for this and their calendar.  The time ran away and the copies did not get done.  The students were in the computer lab learning how to use net tracker to do research on their animal of choice.  I have showed them how to do this on the polar bear.  We then came back to begin our last math test, YEAH!  After this we moved into reading groups and stations.  Then it was time to go outside to have a few minutes to run and play.  I sent those to the library to buy books and also those to Kona Ice.  The students who did not get their money here to purchase their books can still do so.  Kona Ice on the other hand is not returning tomorrow, but will be here the last day of school.

May 1,2012

Today was another fun filled day with lots of learning.  We came in to the class and we had free read and write till announcements were completed.  Then we had a mini lesson on how to locate facts and opinions in our reading.  QUESTION: Describe the difference between a fact and an opinion?  Then Mrs. Doyle came to visit and read anew book.  She began to read to the class the book titled Mister and Me.  We are learning a lot about the story and are comparing to items we use in the present to what those items looked like from the past.  Please ask your child the items they found interesting from the past that people still use today.  Then we were doing our new CGI problem for multiplication and we had some trouble so we will work on it for one more night.  I will send it home tomorrow, I want them to have success on it with me first.  We then moved into science and we are discussing the Polar Bear, ask them what they learned?
